A master's degree from an accredited physical therapy program is the minimum level of education for people pursing a career as a PT. About six out of 10 physical therapists work in hospitals or in PT offices. Jobs are also in home health care services, nursing care facilities, and offices of physicians, physical, occupational and speech therapists, and audiologists.

Background
Physical Therapy is a health care profession which provides services to individuals and populations to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout life. This includes providing services in circumstances where movement and function are threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors. Also doctors may recommend PT for kids with developmental delays, cerebral palsy, genetic disorders, orthopedic disabilities, heart and lung conditions, birth defects, effects of in-utero drug or alcohol exposure, acute trama, head injury, limb deficiencies, muscle diseases. There are six specialty areas: cardiopulmonary, geriatric, neurological, orthopaedic, pediatric, and integumentry.

PT is a excellent field to get into. Granted it requires more schooling than some type of athletic training or other KPE degree, the benefits (including pay!!) are far greater. What would your ideal PT position be in? I know you could probably get an internship or some practical clinical experience at Eastern Maine...
ReplyDeleteHave you had Weeks 273 class? Mostly to do with athletic injuries, but a well rounded course in showing how to treat those injuries and exactly how they are prone in athletic settings.

What do you think about the fact that 78 million baby boomers will be turning 60 years old in the next 15 years or so? They (we!) think we are about 12 years younger than we are...we are in relatively decent shape and want to stay that way.
